I thought this was an interesting site. The information is helpful for a number of reason you might want to skip out for a few minutes (refill the popcorn, get a drink, return a call or text, and of course the primary reason as indicated by the site name… to pee)

Last Thursday evening after dark our door bell rang. When I answered the door there stood a lady that I didn’t know and my wife didn’t know.
Her story was not clear or consistent but included leaving the hospital (3+ miles away line of sight and further if you travel by roads) and walking into our neighborhood. He said her name was Lynn but that it wasn’t her real name. She further clarified that it also wasn’t her first name. (I didn’t see the need for here to clarify the statement but maybe I looked confused.)
She said she was in an abusive relationship and didn’t want anyone to know where she was or where she was going.
I inquired, Where are you going?. She didn’t have an answer to that question but said she wanted to keep moving. At that point Melodie and I suggested she sit for a while and maybe we can find her some help.
She said she was cold and hungry and didn’t know were to go. She asked for some food.
This is where my Melodie and I realized we were not prepared for our guest.

Our spur of the moment homeless guest kit ended up including these things:
1. One blanket for her to wrap around her for warmth.
2. One sleeve of Ritz crackers.
3. One hot cup of tea with milk, no sugar (her choice on the sugar).
4. One phone book where we could find organizations prepared to help.

In the end we think things turned out ok. She wasn’t willing to work with the New Directions place for women in abusive relationships. They were asking her two many questions and she didn’t trust them. But she was willing to talk to the police. We got a sheriff to come out and meet her so that she could go warm up at the police station and hopefully get connected with the local shelter or a similar organization.

What do you have in your Homeless Visitor Emergency Kit? I think Melodie and I will update our kit.

Yesterday, I was perusing the Staunton News Leader online and reading the news updates. Here are the two reports that stood out to me.

The first: “Man found dead near car.” Apparently, the body of a man was found in a parking lot in Staunton with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Very grim.

The second: “Garden tiller reported stolen in Augusta County.” The tiller was left unattended in a garden in Stuarts Draft. It was last seen Oct. 11 and was reported missing Tuesday.

They could have at least included an age-progression photo of the tiller, so that I can recognize the tiller when I find it.

So I decided that it was time to get facebook. After searching around I found this one:

This facebook seems cool. I’m not sure how the networking thing works yet… I did ask the faces on page 8 and page 16 to be my friend. I haven’t received a response yet but I’m hoping they will accept. No one has friended me yet but I’m sure it will happen soon.
I haven’t figured out how to add friends who aren’t already in the book. Right now it appears I would need to tape them in. I already figured out how to remove friends (best done with a scissors instead of just tearing). If anyone has any tips on how to do this facebook thing let me know.

My ankle was more impressive in person but the pics will have to do for all those who were not around to see my ankle first hand.
I almost had to miss a soccer game because of the injury.
