Free Anti-Virus for Home Users
If your internet provider doesn’t provide a free subscription to a major anti-virus / security suite here are some free options.
I know the first one (AVG) includes some email protection also if you still use local email (not web mail like hotmail, Gmail, yahoo mail, etc).
For your PC:

Freeware sites - utilities & programs (not many games)
There are a number of places what I look for free utilities and programs. Some improve the windows experience and some are for other specific functions. The first three sites listed below review the software and the last one has lots of software but usually just has a description of what it does.
Hopefully someone else finds them helpful.

Problem: software is missing - solution ebay
I replaced a computer at church recently and without funds to actually buy equipment or software I’m working with what I have to give or what others are donating.
The replacement of computers and the addition of high speed internet went well with one exception. The secretary had a MS Access database but there was no disk to be found that included Access. There was a retail version of Office 97 standard. The secretary confirm she was using 97 and that is all she needed but Office 97 standard doesn’t include MS Access.
So for a couple weeks the secretary has been asking for MS Access to be loaded and no one can find a CD with Access and no one wants to pay $200-300 for a new version of MS Access or the new MS Office suite. Then a thought crossed my mind.
What about all those people who do upgrade to new versions of Office? If they have a retail version of Office 97 Profession what do they do with it? It turns out that some people sell it on eBay.
With a quick search and the ‘buy it now’ option the secretary now has a retail version of Office 97 Professional (for a modest price) and is happily working again.
Thank you eBay and to the guy in Washington that stays current with his MS Office software.
What do I do with an iPod nano?
I was very fortunate to win an iPod Nano (3rd Generation) but I’ve never consider myself to be an iPod type person. I have other mp3 and portable video devices but no iPods (until now).
My wife has a solution… It involves giving it to her. I’m looking for a good iTunes alternative. Maybe that will be enough for me to us it.
Any good reasons to use it over my Zune, my iRiver, or my wife’s sony walkman (mp3 stick not the original portable tape player)?
AVG - bin file missing - how to fix it.
AVG bin file missing fix.
ERROR: AVG bin file missing!
Here is how to fix it.
If you just need the update bin file then the following link and quick notes will help. If you need other updates you can remove the u7iavi16.16.bin from the end of the link and see all the available update files. Just download the file that AVG says in missing to your computer and then do the update from the directory.
http://download.grisoft.cz/softw/70/update/u7iavi1616oo.bin
Open AVG and select…
Tools -> Update from Directory -> browse to the folder where you saved the file.
Good Luck. I hope this is only a temporary problem and that the next auto update works when it needs to get a new bin.
